Contractor Advisory Committee (CAC) Details

Assist National Government Services in the Development of Local Coverage Determinations

Background

CMS released Change Request 10901 and the companion MLN® Matters MM10901: Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs) article to expand the parameters of who may serve as a Medicare CAC member. The Program Integrity Manual defines the purpose of the CAC to provide a formal mechanism for healthcare professionals to be informed of the evidence used in consideration of developing a proposed LCD and to promote communications between the MAC and the healthcare community. CAC members are used to supplement the MAC’s internal expertise, as well as serve in an advisory capacity as representatives of their constituency to review the quality of the evidence regarding a topic under consideration for development of a proposed LCD.

Invitation and Requirements

NGS invites healthcare professionals from each state within our jurisdictions (JK and J6) to volunteer as Medicare CAC members, or alternates, to represent your specialties or organizations. An important role of a CAC member is to serve as a SME or to recommend a SME to serve on a jurisdictional or multijurisdictional CAC panel.

If you would like to volunteer as a representative or alternate, please request your affiliated national or state society to provide you with a nomination letter.

Next, potential candidates must provide the following documentation to NGSCAC@elevancehealth.com:

  • A nomination letter from the appropriate state or national society
  • Name and title
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Area of specialty
  • Curriculum Vitae

Candidates are vetted after nomination. Once the vetting process has been completed, approved candidates will be notified of their official acceptance.
