American Medical Association and Current Procedural Terminology

The AMA is your trusted source for official CPT. The most widely accepted medical nomenclature used to report medical procedures and services under public and private health insurance programs.

CPT® is registered trademark of the AMA. The CPT Editorial Panel is engaged in an ongoing process improvement effort which currently includes re-examination of the CPT Category I and Category III criteria.

To help you improve your understanding of CPT codes and coding issues, the AMA offers a variety of products and services that provide guidance and practical advice you can apply in your day-to-day practice.

CPT is maintained by the CPT Editorial Panel, which meets three times a year to discuss issues associated with new and emerging technologies as well as difficulties encountered with procedures and services and their relation to CPT codes.
