National Government Services Medicare Part B Redetermination Notice Initiative Is Here

As previously announced, National Government Services is pleased to announce we are discontinuing issuing paper MRNs for requests submitted electronically through our secure internet portal, NGSConnex. These MRNs will be accessible to view and print electronically through NGSConnex. This initiative enhances the speed and efficiency of provider access to Part B MRNs, simplifies Part B redetermination communications, and reduces the use of paper. This new process will also allow for faster delivery and better tracking of your decision letters.

To ensure proper submission of a redetermination and access to the MRN, please follow these instructions:

• Submit your Medicare Part B redetermination request on the initial claim.
  • If you submit your request on a resubmitted claim, we will process your Medicare Part B redetermination request under the initial submitted claim.  
• If you submit multiple Medicare Part B redetermination requests using the initial claim and resubmitted claims, we will only process one request, using the initial claim.  

If you are unable to locate the MRN under the Appeals section of NGSConnex, follow these steps.

1. Select ‘Claim Status Lookup’ on the NGSConnex homepage.
2. In the ‘Select a Provider’ panel, click the ‘Select’ button next to the applicable provider account.
3. Enter the Medicare Number (MBI or HICN) and the From Service Date and To Service Date.
4. Locate the original claim from the claim summary list, select the claim number hyperlink to view Appeal Status information.
5. Select ‘Appeal Status’ from the left-side navigation.
6. Select the ‘View Decision Letter’ link. The MRN will display.

Beneficiaries will continue to receive a hard copy letter, as this change will only affect providers that submit the Part B Redetermination through NGSConnex. Additionally, if a Medicare Part B redetermination request submitted by a provider is received on paper through USPS or other means, the MRN will be mailed through USPS and is not impacted by this change.
