Medicare Preventive Services
Medicare covers many preventive services to help keep your patients healthy. Preventive services can help find health problems early, when treatment works best, and can help keep your patients from getting certain diseases. Talk to your patients about which preventive services are right for them and how often they need them.
We recently updated our Preventive Services Guide to include changes to some services including:
- Annual Wellness Visit: Added G0136 for Social Determinants of Health Risk Assessment as an optional element and information about community health integration initiating visit.
- Colorectal Cancer Screening: Use the KX modifier when billing screening colonoscopies as a follow up to a non-invasive test.
- Diabetes Screening: Added CPT code 83036, coverage criteria and frequency limits updated.
- Diabetes Self-Management Training: Added information on ttelehealth qualifications and flexibilities and registered dietitians and nutrition professionals performing and billing services.
- Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program: Updated codes and payment amounts for 2024.
- Screening for Sexually Transmitted Infections and HIBC to Prevent STIs: Added CPT code 0402U effective 10/1/2023.
- Vaccinations: Flu shot/Hepatitis B shot/Pneumococcal shot: Added information about additional payment for in-home vaccine administrations
