Verify that accurate provider enrollment information is on file with Medicare. Are you familiar with the details identified in the PECOS system for the Medicare enrollment record? The provider enrollment record contains information about billing practice addresses and the special pay-to address. Other areas of the record, such as correspondence, reassignments, contact information and ownership and managing control, should be reviewed periodically to confirm no updates are necessary.
If you are submitting claims to bill for services, it is crucial that the medical records correspondence address is up to date and accessible. This ensures medical record requests can be mailed to the correct location for a timely response.
Depending on how an enrollment is set up, certain information may need to be reviewed and/or updated. Use PECOS to verify that provider enrollment information is accurate, and if updates are needed, submit a change of information application.
