Text Telephone Changes
TTY-based Telecommunications Relay Services permit persons with a hearing or speech disability to use the telephone system via a TTY or other device to call persons with or without such disabilities. To make using TRS as simple as possible, caller’s will now dial 711 to be automatically connected to a TRS communications assistant when trying to reach National Government Services.
Once the caller is connected with a TRS communications assistant through 711, the caller can give them the applicable NGS phone number they want them want to call. The assistant acts as an intermediary and will relay the caller's text in voice to the other party and convert what the other party said to text for the caller. Moving to 711 allows for faster service, easier functionality, and it is completely free.
