Registered Dietitians and COVID-19 Allowances for Billing

National Government Services has received clarification from CMS in regard to registered dietitians/nutritionists billing. When CPT codes 98966‒98968 were originally opened to coverage by CMS, these codes were set up to be allowed by registered dietitians/nutritionists by NGS. 

We have received clarification from CMS that this is not correct and that this range of codes is not allowed to be billed by dietitians/nutritionists. This provider type may not provide these telephone assessment and management services. These providers are limited to their scope of practice.
