NGSConnex: Now Available! Part B Providers May Now Submit Part A Prior Authorizations Requests on Behalf of the Outpatient Department Facility

If you are a Part B Provider who renders certain services in an outpatient department of a Part A hospital facility, you can now electronically submit prior authorization requests on behalf of the Part A facility via NGSConnex. If you aren’t sure whether the service you are providing requires prior authorization you can utilize the Prior Authorization HCPCS Code Inquiry Tool available on NGSMedicare.com to verify.

You will need the following Part A facility information to initiate the request.

  • PTAN for the Part A facility
  • NPI for the Part A facility
  • State where the Part A facility is located
  • Part A facility fax number

Log into NGSConnex and select Prior Authorization on the home page.

When you select Prior Authorization, you will be required to select Part B provider from the ‘Select a Provider’ panel. You will then select the ‘Initiate Prior Authorization’ button.

You will then be prompted to answer the following question. “Are you submitting a PAR for certain OPD services in conjunction with a Part A Provider?" If you answer ‘No,’ you will be taken to the Part B prior authorization request form for RSNAT services. If you answer ‘Yes,' you will be taken you will be asked to enter the PTAN for the Part A facility where the service will be performed, along with the state where the facility is located. You will then be presented with the Part A prior authorization request form that the Part A facility would see, if they were submitting the request.

When you log into Medicare University, you will always begin at your Dashboard. The top navigation bar makes it easy to jump to different sections of Medicare University.

  • Home
    • From anywhere in Medicare University, click “Home” to return to your Dashboard.
  • Learning Library
    • The Learning Library is where you can take a wide range of CBT courses as well as locate the self-reporting attestation for the National Government Services webinars and live trainings you attend.
  • Assigned Training
    • The Assigned Training section is where you would find mandatory CBT courses. We are not currently utilizing this section of Medicare University.
  • Live Sessions
    • We are not currently utilizing the Live Sessions section of Medicare University.
  • Achievements
    • Medicare University keeps track of every time you complete a CBT or self-report that you attended a webinar or live training. Check out the Leaderboard and create a report in the Achievements section.

Use the Search box on your Dashboard to find CBTs and self-reporting attestation pages.

Your Dashboard includes snapshots of courses/attestations you have in progress but have not completed, courses/attestations available (“not started”), where your ranking is on the Leaderboard and your totals for the number of courses/attestations overdue, in progress, not started and completed.

To prepare for beneficiary eligibility information no longer being offered in the IVR system beginning 11/18/2024, register for NGSConnex if you haven’t already done so.

Did you know that you can obtain Medicare beneficiary information in NGSConnex, our secure provider portal?

When you log into NGSConnex and conduct an Eligibility lookup, you will have all of the following information at your fingertips.

  • Part B deductible information
  • Other insurance information
  • Home health and hospice information
  • Inpatient/SNF spell history information
  • End-Stage Renal Disease information
  • Preventive services information
  • Audiology screening information
  • COVID-19, flu, pneumococcal vaccine information

There is no need to try and document the information by writing it down, because you can print and/or save the information electronically for your records.

Principal Illness Navigation (Part 3)

Principal Illness Navigation using auxiliary personnel, patient navigators, and peer support specialists are payable by Medicare beginning in 2024. This video will take you through the new coverage, what may be provided and performed for the patient along with the appropriate billing information for the service.
