Fiscal Intermediary Standard System
National Government Services utilizes FISS to process claims and maintain Medicare beneficiary information. Providers have access to this information through a secure online computer system connection with their A/B MAC.
Throughout this guide, we have provided information covering a variety of topics including Medicare eligibility, deductibles, coinsurance, HMO, MSP, etc. Although this guide has provided various options and contacts for finding this information, it is most important that providers use the FISS DDE Provider Online System to locate this information for each patient.
Each provider should have a copy of the FISS DDE Provider Online System Manual issued by National Government Services. The introduction to this training guide states:
"The FISS Online User Manual was prepared to assist the user in logging onto the interactive FISS DDE system FISS DDE offers access to the FISS DDE online system, which features claim entry, claim correction and inquiry regarding revenue codes, HCPCS codes, FISS reason codes, beneficiary eligibility, DRG Grouper/PRICER, online reports, and other items."
